SPECIAL
RULES AND REGULATIONS
RABBIT SHOW
1. All entries in this department will be subject
to the general rules regulations of the Wood County Jr.
Livestock Show except where they conflict with these “Special
Rules” in which case, these “Special Rules” will prevail.
2. Entry/Sponsor forms and entry fee must be submitted by the
third Monday in January. There will be a $10
fee for rabbits.
3. All pens of rabbits must have a sponsor who has agreed to
offer the first bid at the Wood County Jr. Livestock Show Sale
in the amount of $150.00.
4. Animals will be tattooed on the published date between 9:00
AM and 5:00 PM at a place designated by the Rabbit Superintendent.
Exhibitors may qualify up to a limit of twelve rabbits (12) at
tattoo time. All rabbits entered must be tattooed with an
assigned number which will be recorded on the entry form on
file. No substitutions will be allowed after this time.
5. Meat pens shall consist of three (3) rabbits, all of the same
breed and variety(color). In the pen of three, each rabbit shall
weigh between 3 ½ lbs. minimum and 5 lbs. maximum. There will
be a 3 ounce scale tolerance. The ideal age for Market Rabbits
is twelve weeks. Disqualification from competition occurs if:
More than one breed variety appears in the same pen; any one
rabbit in the pen is overweight or underweight, the entire pen
is disqualified; any one rabbit in the pen is disqualified from
competition, the entire pen becomes disqualified. Any animal
showing ear canker, sore hocks, buckteeth or any obvious disease
may not be permitted in the show or sale. Disqualification of
sick animals will be at the judge’s discretion. All disqualified
animals must be removed from the show grounds by Thursday.
6. (A) Rabbits will
be presented for weigh-in between 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm on
Thursday. The first three rabbits to make weight will be
used for the pen. The pen of
selected rabbits (either sex, any color) shall come from the
group of tattooed rabbits. (B) Once
the rabbit weigh in has begun, any rabbit leaving the validation
area will be disqualified. All rabbits not exhibited must be
removed from the show grounds by Thursday.
7. Showmanship will be judged immediately following the Rabbit
Show.
8. All exhibitors will be issued a contestant
number that matches their cage number. The number is to be worn
on their chest area and be visible at all times during the
actual rabbit show.
9. The exhibitor will provide the buyer with three processed
chickens as an appreciation gift.
10. Final
pen of three rabbits to be exhibited may
have additional markings
installed at final weigh in.
11. No force feeding/watering of rabbits will be allowed.
Nothing can be applied to the body or fur of the rabbit that
might increase weight.
12. Any deviation from these rules will require Livestock Show
Executive Board action.
